How to properly parse HTML and XML in PHP: an overview of popular methods and libraries
Hello everyone! I'm a beginner PHP developer and I've encountered a problem with parsing HTML and XML. I need to extract data from an external website (e.g., news headlines and links) and also process XML feeds from partners.\n\nThe issue is that I tried using regular expressions, but the code turns out terrible and breaks at the slightest change in the HTML. For example, I wrote this code:\n\n```php\n$html = file_get_contents('https://example.com');\npreg_match('/
(.*?)<\\/h2>/', $html, $matches);\necho $matches[1];\n```\n\nBut if the site's structure changes or line breaks appear, everything stops working. Additionally, I've read that there's SimpleXML for XML, but it doesn't work with HTML, while DOMDocument supposedly handles both. But I'm confused: which tool should I choose for each task?
