Go (Golang) Community Awards 2024: Best Libraries of the Year Announced
The Go (Golang) community has summed up the results of the annual Go Community Awards 2024 vote. Developers from around the world chose the best libraries and tools in key categories — from web frameworks to observability tools. The results demonstrate a growing interest in high-performance, lightweight solutions and confirm the trend toward modularity in the Go ecosystem.
Winners in Main Categories
🏆 Best Web Framework: Gin
Gin has held the lead among Go web frameworks for several years. Developers value it for its high performance (up to 40x faster than standard net/http), simple API, and built-in validation. In 2024, Gin received 34% of the votes, ahead of Fiber (28%) and Echo (22%).
🏆 Best Database Library: GORM
The ORM for Go — GORM — became the winner thanks to its flexibility and active community support. The library supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, SQL Server, and even ClickHouse. It is noted that GORM continues to improve support for migrations and Hooks.
🏆 Best CLI Tool: Cobra
Cobra is the de facto standard for building powerful CLI applications in Go. It is used in Kubernetes, Hugo, and GitHub CLI. This year, the community highlighted its convenient documentation generation and autocompletion for bash/zsh.
New Stars of the Ecosystem
- Bubble Tea (category "Best TUI Framework") — a library for creating elegant terminal interfaces in the Elm style. Won with a 15% margin over second place.
- Zerolog (category "Best Logging") — a high-performance logger with zero allocations. Outpaced Zap and the standard log/slog.
- Prometheus Client (category "Best Observability Library") — a proven tool for metrics that continues to dominate in cloud environments.
- Testcontainers-Go (category "Best Testing") — a library for integration testing with Docker containers. In 2024, it added support for compose files.
Trends of 2024 According to the Community
Analyzing the results, several key development directions for the Go ecosystem in 2024 can be highlighted:
- Focus on performance — winners in almost all categories are distinguished by minimal memory consumption and high speed (Gin, Zerolog, Fasthttp).
- Growth of TUI tools — Bubble Tea and the Charm ecosystem are gaining popularity, displacing traditional GUIs.
- Integration with AI/ML — libraries for working with LLMs (LangChain Go) have emerged, which are not yet in the top but are actively discussed.
- Simplification of DevOps — Testcontainers-Go and Dagger.io (category "Best CI/CD") show that Go is becoming the standard for infrastructure code.
How Did the Community Vote?
More than 8,000 developers from 112 countries took part in the voting. The voting took place in two stages: first nominations, then the final round. The organizers noted a record turnout — 22% more than in 2023. Full list of nominees
