The C# (.NET) market has heated up: developer salaries have increased by 20%

The job market for C# (.NET) developers has brought a surprise. According to the latest data from analytical services for IT recruitment, over the past six months, the median salary for specialists in this field has increased by more than 20%. The trend has been recorded in both the Middle and Senior segments, and experts are already talking about the market returning to "pre-crisis" demand levels.

If at the beginning of 2023 the average salary of a C# developer was 250–300 thousand rubles, by the fall of 2024 this bar has confidently shifted to the 350–400 thousand ruble mark for experienced specialists. At the same time, employers are actively competing for talent, offering not only money but also expanded social packages.

Why have C# developer salaries increased?

Analysts highlight several key growth factors:

  • Personnel shortage. The market is oversaturated with Junior specialists, but there is an acute shortage of Middle and Senior engineers. Companies are willing to overpay for experienced "seniors" capable of leading complex projects.
  • Import substitution and the public sector. The active transition of government and corporate systems to domestic software (including those based on .NET) has created a huge demand for C# developers.
  • Departure of Western vendors. After the departure of many international companies, niches in fintech, logistics, and retail have opened up. Russian companies building alternatives are actively hiring teams for C# and .NET.

Who benefits: Backend, Fullstack, or Unity?

The salary growth has not affected all areas equally. The largest increases were seen by:

  • Backend developers (.NET Core, ASP.NET) — an increase of up to 25%. They are actively sought after by banks, marketplaces, and logistics operators.
  • Fullstack specialists (C# + TypeScript/React) — an increase of about 18%. Such generalists are valued in startups and product companies.
  • Unity developers — more modest growth, around 10%, but demand is stable due to game development and interactive applications.

What's next? Forecasts for 2025

Experts from hh.ru and Habr Career believe that the trend will continue at least until mid-2025. The main drivers are the digitalization of public services, the development of fintech platforms, and the shortage of Senior+ level specialists. However, growth may slow down if the market becomes saturated due to active retraining of Java and Python developers to C#.

For job seekers, this is an excellent time to negotiate a salary increase or change projects. For those just entering IT, C# remains one of the most promising languages in terms of earnings and job stability, especially in the corporate and enterprise segment.
