Survey: Which Go (Golang) Frameworks Are Used in Production

The Go (Golang) ecosystem continues to actively develop, and choosing the right web framework for production is one of the key tasks for a developer. A recent survey conducted among professional Go developers showed which tools are truly in demand in real projects. The results turned out to be unexpected: the race for performance is giving way to stability and ecosystem.

Top 3 Frameworks by Popularity in Production

More than 1,500 developers from different countries took part in the survey. The leaders were distributed as follows:

  • Gin — 41% of respondents. The undisputed favorite, known for its lightning speed and minimalist API. Most often used in microservice architecture and REST APIs.
  • Echo — 27%. Second place went to a framework valued for its rich documentation and built-in middleware support. An optimal choice for medium and large projects.
  • Fiber — 19%. The Express-like syntax attracted former Node.js developers. Despite its youth, Fiber confidently enters the top three thanks to high performance and simplicity.

The remaining 13% went to frameworks such as Chi, Beego, Buffalo, and custom solutions built on plain net/http.

Why They Choose These Frameworks

Analysis of survey participant comments allowed us to identify the main selection criteria:

  • Performance — 68% of respondents noted that speed is critical for their production load.
  • Community and support — 54% of developers choose a framework that has a large community and many ready-made solutions.
  • Ease of migration — 39% of respondents indicated that the ability to quickly transition from another language or framework was an important factor.
  • Built-in validation and database interaction — 31% value an ecosystem that reduces the number of external dependencies.

Trends and Predictions

Interestingly, demand for "heavy" frameworks like Beego is gradually declining — developers are increasingly preferring lightweight and modular solutions. At the same time, plain net/http remains popular for high-load projects where complete code transparency is important.

Experts predict that in the next year or two, the gap between Gin and Echo will narrow, and Fiber may overtake Echo due to active development and optimization for new versions of Go.

Conclusions for the Go Developer

If you are just starting to learn Go or choosing a framework for a new production project, focus on your tasks:

  • For high-load APIs — Gin or Fiber.
  • For monolithic applications with extensive functionality — Echo.
  • For microservices and startups — Gin or Chi.

As the survey shows, there is no universal solution. The best framework is the one that solves your specific problem with minimal overhead and maximum reliability.
