Top 5 Swift Libraries 2024: What the Community Chose
Every year, the Swift developer community holds an open vote for the best libraries of the year. In 2024, more than 12,000 specialists from the iOS and macOS development fields took part in the survey. The winners were announced at the Swift Conf 2024 conference. Here are the top five tools that received the most votes.
🥇 1st place: Vapor 5 — the king of server-side Swift
The Vapor 5 library confidently took first place, receiving 34% of the votes. It is the most popular framework for server-side development in Swift. Key advantages of the new version:
- Full support for async/await at the routing level.
- Built-in WebSocket server with automatic connection management.
- New ORM system Fluent 5 with support for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite.
- Improved performance: request processing speed increased by 40%.
Vapor 5 is actively used in startups and large projects, including backends for applications with millions of users.
🥈 2nd place: SwiftUIX — extending SwiftUI capabilities
Second place (28% of votes) went to the SwiftUIX library. It adds over 200 components to SwiftUI that are missing from Apple's standard framework. These include:
- Ready-made UI elements: calendars, sliders, date pickers.
- Tools for working with the keyboard and gestures.
- Animated transitions and custom modal windows.
SwiftUIX is especially useful when developing for iOS 15+, where many components still require refinement.
🥉 3rd place: Alamofire 6 — a reliable networking layer
In third place on the ranking is the time-tested Alamofire 6 (18% of votes). The legendary library for working with HTTP requests has received significant updates:
- Automatic support for Swift Concurrency (async/await).
- Built-in traffic monitoring and logging.
- New API for file uploads with progress bars.
Alamofire remains the de facto standard for network requests in most iOS applications.
🏅 4th place: Swinject — dependency injection
Fourth place (12% of votes) went to the Swinject library — a lightweight DI container for Swift. It allows you to:
- Automatically resolve dependencies between objects.
- Use protocols for unit testing.
- Integrate with UIKit and SwiftUI via special extensions.
Swinject is especially popular in large projects with hundreds of services and controllers.
🏅 5th place: SnapshotTesting — visual testing
Rounding out the top five is SnapshotTesting (8% of votes) from Point-Free. This library allows you to automatically compare UI screenshots with reference images. Advantages:
- Instant detection of regressions in the interface.
- Support for iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.
- Generation of HTML reports for CI/CD.
SnapshotTesting has become an indispensable tool for teams
