Swift (iOS/macOS) Community Has Chosen the Best Libraries of the Year

Each year, the Swift developer community takes stock, selecting the most useful and innovative libraries for the Apple ecosystem. In 2024, the voting once again revealed favorites that help speed up development, improve performance, and implement modern approaches in projects for iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. We have gathered the main results and are sharing which tools have earned the recognition of colleagues.

Winners in Key Categories

Voting took place at major Swift conferences and in specialized online communities. Participants evaluated libraries based on criteria: ease of use, documentation, support activity, and impact on the ecosystem. Here is the list of the best in 2024:

  • SwiftLint — a tool for linting and formatting code. It remains indispensable in team development, helping to maintain a consistent style and avoid common errors.
  • Alamofire 6 — a next-generation HTTP client with support for async/await and Swift Concurrency. The updated version features improved performance and a simpler syntax.
  • SwiftUIX — an extension of standard SwiftUI, adding missing components: custom modal windows, advanced animations, and support for complex gestures.
  • Kingfisher 8 — a library for asynchronous image loading and caching. The new version is optimized for SwiftUI and supports HEIC/AVIF formats.
  • Composable Architecture (TCA) 2.0 — a framework for managing application state. A stable version with improved SwiftUI integration and testing.
  • Realm Swift 12 — a mobile database that has surpassed Core Data in speed when working with large data volumes and synchronization via Atlas Device Sync.

What Has Changed Compared to Last Year

Experts note a trend towards deeper use of Swift Concurrency (async/await, actors) and a move away from third-party dependencies in favor of standard solutions. For example, libraries that previously duplicated functionality from Foundation or Combine have given way to more specialized tools. The popularity of Swift Package Manager as a unified way to manage dependencies is also growing — CocoaPods is gradually losing ground.

Why These Libraries Are Important for Developers

Each of the listed libraries solves specific tasks: from improving code quality to speeding up work with networks and data. For developers who want to stay on trend, learning these tools is not just a recommendation but a necessity. This is especially true for those transitioning from UIKit to SwiftUI or starting to use Swift in server-side projects via Vapor.

How the Voting Worked and Who Participated

More than 12,000 developers from 80 countries took part in the voting. The organizers were the Swift Weekly, iOS Dev Happy Hour, and Swift Community Awards communities. The evaluation was conducted anonymously, taking into account feedback from open GitHub repositories and results from beta testing.

If you want to get to know the winners more deeply, we recommend visiting the official repositories on GitHub and trying integration into your projects. And on our website pythonlib.ru you will find more materials on Swift, iOS development, and related technologies.
