Salaries of Swift (iOS/macOS) developers have jumped by 20%: reasons and forecasts

The Russian labor market for Swift developers is showing confident growth. According to the latest data from job aggregators and recruitment agencies, the average income level of specialists working with Apple frameworks (SwiftUI, UIKit, AppKit) has increased by 20% compared to the same period last year. This trend has affected both iOS and macOS developers, making Swift one of the most promising languages to learn in 2024.

Key market figures

Analytics show that salary growth is not point-based but systemic. The average market indicators are as follows (data for Q3 2024):

  • Junior (up to 1 year of experience): from 80,000 to 130,000 rubles (15% growth compared to 2023). Employers are actively seeking young specialists familiar with Swift Concurrency and MVVM architecture.
  • Middle (2-4 years): from 250,000 to 380,000 rubles (22% growth). The key requirement is experience with multithreading, Core Data, and integration of third-party SDKs.
  • Senior (5+ years): from 450,000 to 650,000+ rubles (18% growth). Most in demand are experts capable of designing complex application architecture and conducting code reviews.

The salary jump is especially noticeable in the segment of macOS developers: demand for them has increased almost 1.5 times due to the active transition of the corporate sector to the Apple ecosystem. Specialists proficient in SwiftUI for desktop receive a salary premium on average 10-15% higher than their colleagues who write only for mobile devices.

Why are salaries growing?

Experts identify three key drivers of income growth for Swift specialists:

  • Personnel shortage amid import substitution. After the departure of Western vendors, Russian companies are actively refining their own mobile banking apps, marketplaces, and corporate systems, which require qualified Swift programmers.
  • Increasing complexity of the technology stack. Modern iOS applications increasingly require integration with neural networks (Core ML, Create ML), AR tools (RealityKit), and complex animation. Employers are willing to pay above market rates for such skills.
  • Growth in the share of remote work. Swift developers are increasingly working for foreign companies (through self-employment or individual entrepreneurship), which creates competition for the best talent in the local market and pushes salaries upward.

What does this mean for beginners?

If you are just starting to learn programming, Swift is an excellent choice to begin with. The language is actively developing, and the entry threshold into the profession remains moderate thanks to high-quality Apple documentation and a large amount of educational materials in Russian (including our site PythonLib).

Even without commercial experience, but with a good portfolio on GitHub, you can qualify for a starting salary of 90,000–110,000 rubles. And after 1–2 years of active work, having mastered SwiftUI and Firebase, you can easily grow to the Middle level and double your income.

Forecast for 2025: analysts expect further market growth of 10–15%. At the same time, the most valuable will be developers
