Go (Golang) Conference: Main Announcements and Language News

The annual conference on the Go programming language (Golang) once again brought together thousands of developers from around the world. The event, held in a hybrid format, served as a platform for key announcements from the Go development team, as well as for discussing the future of the language, which is actively used in cloud technologies, microservices, and DevOps.

This year, the organizers presented several significant updates that promise to change the approach to writing code in Go. We have gathered the main news that every developer should know.

1. New Version of the Go 1.23 Compiler

One of the central announcements was the release of Go 1.23. Key improvements include:

  • Faster compilation — thanks to optimization of the garbage collector and improved inlining algorithms, project build speed has increased by 15-20%.
  • New experimental syntax for error handling — the try operator has been introduced, which reduces boilerplate code and makes error handling logic more readable.
  • Generics support for the standard library — many functions from the slices, maps, and sort packages now work with generic types.

2. Improved Microservices Support

At the conference, an expansion of the standard library's capabilities for building microservice architectures was announced. Specifically:

  • New package net/http2 — improved HTTP/2 support with push requests and streaming data.
  • Experimental package service — simplifies creating and managing microservices, including built-in support for metrics, tracing, and graceful shutdown.
  • Integration with OpenTelemetry — Go's built-in tools now allow connecting data collection for observability without third-party libraries.

3. New Profiling Tool: Go Profile Pro

Another important announcement was the introduction of the new tool Go Profile Pro — an enhanced version of the built-in profiler. Its capabilities include:

  • Real-time goroutine visualization.
  • Memory leak analysis down to the line of code.
  • Integration with IDEs (VS Code, GoLand) for interactive performance debugging.

The tool is already available in beta for all Go users.

4. Educational Initiatives and Community

The organizers also focused on community development. The following were announced:

  • Free online course "Go for Beginners" — launched on the educational platform PythonLib (expanding the course lineup for modern programming languages).
  • Grant program for Open Source projects in Go — up to $10,000 for developing libraries and tools.
  • Annual Go Hack hackathon — with a prize fund of $50,000 and support from leading IT companies.

Conference Summary

The conference showed that Go continues to develop confidently, remaining one of the most in-demand languages for backend development, cloud services, and high-load
