Overview of JavaScript Developer Salaries in Russia in 2024

The JavaScript developer market in Russia continues to be one of the most dynamic and highly paid in the IT sector. Despite economic changes and the departure of several foreign companies, the demand for qualified JS specialists (especially those working with Node.js, React, and Vue) remains consistently high. In this article, we will analyze current salary data, factors affecting income, and provide practical code examples for those who want to enter the profession or upgrade their grade.

The data is based on an analysis of vacancies from HeadHunter, Habr Career, and surveys of professional communities for the first half of 2024. All figures are given in rubles (net, after tax deduction) for full-time positions.

Average Salaries by Levels (Grades)

The salary of a JavaScript developer directly depends on the level of competencies. Let's consider three main grades: Junior, Middle, and Senior.

Junior JavaScript Developer (0–1.5 years of experience)

Entry level. Usually requires knowledge of basic language concepts, working with the DOM, one framework (React, Vue, or Angular), and basic skills in working with Git.

  • Range: 60,000 – 120,000 ₽
  • Median: 85,000 ₽
  • Key skills: ES6+, Fetch API, basics of Node.js (Express), working with CSS preprocessors.

Example of a simple Express server for a junior developer's portfolio:

const express = require('express');const app = express();const port = 3000;

app.get('/api/status', (req, res) => { res.json({ status: 'ok', level: 'junior', salary: 'growing' });});

app.listen(port, () => { console.log(`Server running at http://localhost:${port}`);});

Middle JavaScript Developer (1.5–4 years of experience)

A specialist capable of independently solving medium-complexity tasks, conducting code reviews, and designing the architecture of individual modules. Knowledge of TypeScript, testing (Jest), and advanced patterns is mandatory.

  • Range: 150,000 – 280,000 ₽
  • Median: 210,000 ₽
  • Key skills: TypeScript, Nest.js, Docker, CI/CD, SQL/NoSQL databases.

Example of middleware for authorization on Node.js (Middle level):

const jwt = require('jsonwebtoken');

const authMiddleware = (req, res, next) => { const token = req.headers.authorization?.split(' ')[1]; if (!token) { return res.status(401).json({ error: 'No token provided' }); } try { const decoded = jwt.verify(token, process.env.JWT_SECRET); req.user = decoded; next(); } catch (err) { return res.status(403).json({ error: 'Invalid token' }); }};

module.exports = authMiddleware;

Senior JavaScript Developer (from 4–5 years of experience)

A leading specialist responsible for project architecture, performance optimization, team mentoring, and making technical decisions. Deep knowledge of Node.js, system design, and cloud technologies (AWS, Yandex Cloud) is expected.

  • Range: 300,000 – 550,000+ ₽
  • Median: 380,000 ₽
  • Key skills: Microservices, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes, architectural patterns (CQRS, Event Sourcing).

Example of processing a message queue using Redis (Bull) for a Senior position:

const Queue = require('bull');const emailQueue = new Queue('email', 'redis://127.0.0.1:6379');

emailQueue.process(async (job) => { const { userId, template } = job.data; console.log(`Sending email to user ${userId} with template ${template}`); // Simulating sending await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 10
