Coding of the text into an arbitrary binary code and vice versa. Example: "A" <-> "01100011"

I need to convert a string, for example "A", into a binary code string, for example "01100011", then process this binary code a bit, applying the "exclusive or" function with another binary code, for example "01100011" with "11000010", then "10100001", and then convert the resulting code back to a readable string, for example to "T".
That is, I want to use Russian, English and Ukrainian layouts and numbers, with punctuation marks. Can you tell me how to do this in Python 3?
The question is how to convert a string to binary code and vice versa using any encoding algorithm?
