Go (Golang) Community Chooses Best Libraries of the Year: 2024 Awards Results
At the end of 2024, the Go (Golang) developer community held its traditional Go Community Awards. This year, the vote gathered a record number of participants — over 15,000 developers from around the world. Winners were determined in five key categories: web frameworks, command-line interface (CLI) tools, testing, HTTP clients, and DevOps utilities.
We have prepared an overview of the most notable projects that were recognized as the best and that every Go developer should know.
Web Framework of the Year: Gin at the Top Again
In the "Web Frameworks" category, Gin won an unconditional victory. This high-performance framework, known for its speed and minimalist API, continues to hold the lead for the fourth consecutive year. In second place is Fiber, inspired by Express.js, and third place went to Echo. Developers noted that Gin remains the number one choice for building REST APIs and microservices thanks to excellent documentation and a rich middleware ecosystem.
Best CLI Library: Cobra and Bubble Tea
Among tools for building command-line interfaces, the victory was shared by two projects:
- Cobra — the perennial leader for creating complex CLI applications with support for subcommands, flags, and autocompletion. Used in Kubernetes, Hugo, and Docker.
- Bubble Tea — an elegant framework for creating TUIs (text-based user interfaces) in the Elm style. Received the award for "Most Innovative Project of the Year".
HTTP Client: Newcomer FastHTTP Surpasses the Standard Library
In the "HTTP Clients and Servers" category, the FastHTTP project was a sensation. This library, written from scratch for ultra-high performance, surpassed the standard net/http package and the popular Chi Router. Developers noted that FastHTTP provides up to 10 times higher throughput in benchmarks, which is critical for high-load systems.
Testing: Testify Maintains Leadership
In the testing domain, Testify won a confident victory — a set of tools for assertions, mocks, and test suites. The community highlighted its convenience and compatibility with the built-in testing package. Second place went to GoMock, and third to the new Ginkgo framework for BDD testing.
DevOps Utility of the Year: Terraform and OpenTelemetry
In the DevOps and infrastructure tools category, two libraries won:
- Terraform Plugin SDK — the primary tool for writing Terraform providers in Go. Recognized for its stability and active support.
- OpenTelemetry Go SDK — the de facto standard for tracing and metrics. The community emphasized its integration with cloud services and ease of configuration.
What's Next?
Summing up the Go Community Awards is not only a reason to praise the best projects but also an opportunity to look into the future. Experts note that in 2025, we can expect a rise in the popularity of libraries for WebAssembly in Go, as well as the development of tools for working with
