C# (.NET) Community Chooses the Best Libraries of 2024

The annual .NET Community Choice Awards has announced the voting results. This year, developers from around the world selected the best libraries and tools for the .NET platform. The voting took place in several stages, and the final list of winners covers all key areas of development: from web frameworks to tools for testing and working with databases.

We have compiled the main winners in each category, which have already earned the trust of thousands of C# developers.

Category: "The World of .NET"

  • 1st place: Entity Framework Core — the leading ORM for .NET, which continues to evolve with new capabilities for working with databases.
  • 2nd place: Newtonsoft.Json — a classic tool for JSON serialization and deserialization.
  • 3rd place: Serilog — a flexible logging system with support for structured data.

Best Web Library

  • Winner: Blazor — a framework for building interactive web UIs in C# without JavaScript.
  • Nominees: ASP.NET Core Minimal APIs, FastEndpoints, HotChocolate (GraphQL).

Data and Storage

  • Winner: Dapper — a micro-ORM from Stack Overflow, providing maximum performance when working with SQL.
  • 2nd place: Marten — a library for working with PostgreSQL in event-driven systems.

Testing and Code Quality

  • 1st place: xUnit.net — a modern framework for unit testing.
  • 2nd place: FluentAssertions — a library for writing readable and expressive test assertions.
  • 3rd place: Moq — a popular tool for creating mock objects.

Developer Tools

  • Winner: JetBrains Rider — a cross-platform IDE for .NET development.
  • 2nd place: BenchmarkDotNet — a library for precise code performance measurement.
  • 3rd place: Refit — a REST API client generator based on interfaces.

What Does This Mean for the Community?

The voting results show trends in the world of .NET development. Entity Framework Core and Dapper remain the de facto standard for working with data, while Blazor is confidently displacing traditional JavaScript frameworks. Interestingly, this year developers especially highlighted libraries for testing and improving code quality — this speaks to the maturity of the community and its commitment to reliable solutions.

If you use C# in your projects, we recommend checking out the full list of winners on the official awards website. Many of these libraries are already available on NuGet and can significantly speed up development.
